Mike, 1974.......................Mike and Diana, 2010

Mike Madonio

After graduation, Mike attended the University of Akron where he earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1979. As part of his engineering curriculum, he worked with the City of Akron as an engineering co-op for nearly two years.

Two weeks after receiving his degree, Mike began his career with the City of Akron, in the Bureau of Engineering.

Two years before getting his degree, Mike married his high school sweetheart, Diana Staubs, on September 3, 1977. They are still married..... and Diana is still his sweetheart.

Although Mike stayed in Akron his entire career, he was involved in many projects that made the community a better place.

In 1983 he passed his test to become a Professional Engineer in the state of Ohio.

He was design project manager for the $76 million reconstruction of the East Expressway (from the Central Interchange to Gilchrist Road).

He was also the lead design engineer for improvements made to Interstate 77 from the Central Interchange to I-277, in the mid-to-late 1980s.

He was involved with many park projects, bridge deck replacements, parking deck repairs, petition street improvements, and worked extensively with the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration on major highway improvements.
He served one year as the chairman of the Technical Advisory Committee for AMATS (Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study.

Mike retired from the City of Akron on January 31, 2008 with over 30 years of service. At the time of his retirement, he was the Design Manager of the Bureau of Engineering.

He and Diana have two grown children and two grandchildren. Daughter, Kristin (b. 1981) and her husband, Josh (b. 1981), have a daughter, Leah (b. 2010).
Kristin is a 2nd grade teacher at Hartville Elementary.

Mike and Diana's son, Joe (b. 1983), is a single dad, raising his son, Anthony (b. 2004).
Joe is the Dairy Manager at Acme on Wedgewood.

Both of Mike's children live within a 2-mile radius, so "Emma and Papa" get to spoil the grandkids. (Especially Emma!!)

Mike now spends his time doing whatever he wants to do.
His interests are golfing, fishing, genealogy, and gardening.
He also does a fair amount of volunteering... either at his grandkids school, or at a local food, clothing, and furniture bank.
Mike is also a member of the Outreach Ministry at St. Matthew's Church, where he heads up an annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner.
