After graduating from Ellet, LuAnn married Rick Brown, from Springfield,
in October 1974. They moved to Washington state in 1975.
Here's her story:
We had three children:
Ricky, born June 1977. He lives in Akron and works at a plastics factory;
Georgia, born September 1981. She lives in Springfield, Oregon and has a 5 year old
daughter (Jasmine) She is the accountant for a heating-AC company.
And then there is Andy, born March 1984, he lives here in Othello, and he has a 5 year
old son (Harley) and another baby due in March -- a boy (David). Andy is a department
manager for the local Wal-Mart.
Rick and I were divorced in 1989. He moved back to Akron and I stayed in Washington,
living in Othello.
Here I was, newly divorced with three children to support, so I went back to school in 1989.
I spent 6-1/2 years earning my bachelor's degree in social sciences.
I attended Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake Washington (where I was living at the time).
I attended Central Washington University in Ellensburg Washington.
Finally, I earned my degree from Washington State University, Pullman, through the
extended degree program.
Since becoming a journalist, I have also taken some classes through a variety of seminars
and writing conferences.
I married my husband Eric Morgan in 2003. I have four stepchildren - Cora,
Shaune, Justin and Amanda. (Cora has two teenagers, a boy and a girl.)
As you can see, I now have a very large family.
Hmmm....I guess you might like to know where I work, and what I do, huh?
Well, I am a freelance journalist and I recently started my own publications company!
My premier newspaper is a Hispanic language paper. It covers Othello and three other
small cities in the immediate area. The population in this agricultural area is 70 to 80
percent Hispanic.
I am also the bookkeeper for the Othello McDonald's.
I have worked for several newspapers, both as a full-time employee and as a
freelance writer. Prior to going to freelancing full-time, I was the editor of the Othello
Outlook. My writing has been published internationally. I have won many awards for my
writing and photography.
I am also a book reviewer for several different organizations and a member of a couple
book groups.
My volunteer activities are: Secretary for the Othello Hispanic Chamber of Commerce;
Secretary for the Othello Community Museum board of directors; member of the Othello
Sandhill Crane Festival volunteer committee.
I am also planning to be very active with the Othello Centennial committee, which is
planning for the 100-birthday of the town in 2010.
In my free time I enjoy reading, hiking, camping, rockhounding, cross stitch,
spending time with family, wildlife photography, historical research of the local area
where I live now.
My blog is
lumorgan.blogspot.com
I don't keep it up-to-date as well as I should because I get busy with all the other
stuff I'm involved with.
I'd love to hear from any of my former classmates.
